Tiger Tail Theatre

Tiger Tail Theatre offers improvised theatre clubs and workshops children and teens (age groups 9–11, 11–13, and 13–18), families, uniformed groups, and community groups.

Why improv? First and foremost, because it is fun! Things which are inherently delightful and joyous are always important in life.

We believe in facilitating connection, play, and confidence.

Play

Play is beneficial for people of all ages. It reduces stress, increases creativity and facilitates learning. At Tiger Tail Theatre, we create a supportive space in which everyone has permission to play and where everyone is encouraged to be their most authentic, silly, joyful self.

Connection

Improv teaches us to connect with our scene partner so we can support each other and collaborate in creating something amazing. Improv is a form of mindfulness, when we are living in the moment, focusing only on listening to our scene partner(s) and reacting to them.

Confidence

Confidence is then the serendipitous side effect of all the above because practising being playful, authentic and supportive during an improv class makes it easier to be your genuine self in other areas of your life. Come try it and see!

Curious about Tiger Tail Theatre and what our classes are all about? You’re in the right place!

  • Improv, sometimes called improvised theatre or improvised comedy, is a form of unscripted theatre which is made up on the spot by the performers in each scene. It can be anything from short scenes or games which are only a few minutes long to full-length plays or even musicals! Improv does not have to be funny, but it is often accidentally funny, as both the performers and the audience enjoy and delight in watching the creative process take place in real time. We follow the golden rule of 'yes, and..' which means we accept our scene partner's offer and build upon it. Of course, our first goal is to establish trust and together agree to a code of conduct in which we are free to opt out of any choice or exercise we are not comfortable with, with no explanations needed.   • Our groups for children and teens are designed especially for ages 9 to 18 because these ages are both a period of amazing creativity and a time of confusing change, in which self-criticism growns and self-acceptance can sometimes falter. Improv teaches us that it is okay to be ourselves and to embrace and celebrate failure. Practising these skills in the tween and teen years helps children more confidently move into adolescence and adulthood. We also teach families with children of all ages, community groups, and uniformed groups.

    The aim of each workshop is to bring out the silly side of each participant, encouraging connection and giving you games to take back to your family life, so you always have access to a quick burst of joy whenever it is needed!

  • Improv requires no special equipment. We don't use props or wear costumes because we create all of these things with our imaginations! That said, we do move around a lot, so comfortable clothing is important for our workshops. For our after-school club, school uniform is fine, as there isn't time to change before class starts and we don't have changing rooms on site. Please pack a nut-free snack for your child (and yourself, if you're attending a parent-and-child workshop) and bring a full water bottle. If your child might want to opt out of any activity (this is absolutely fine because we are all about listening to your needs and advocating for yourself), please ensure they have a book to read or a notepad to draw on, so they have something to occupy themselves until they feel like rejoining the class. 

  • Absolutely! We are fully insured, DBS checked and first-aid trained. We have up-to-date safeguarding training and will be publishing our safeguarding policy soon.
